Coastal Petiquette: The 2026 White Rock Dog-Owner’s Guide

white rock beach dog rules in effect | hamish ross real estate

As we move into the sunnier days of April, our vibrant White Rock waterfront becomes the heart of the community. To keep the Promenade enjoyable for everyone during the busy spring and summer months, the City of White Rock transitions to seasonal dog-access rules.

The 'Golden Rule' (April 1 – Sept 30): Leashed dogs are welcomed on the waterfront Promenade daily between 5:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. This early morning window is a local favorite—perfect for a quiet sunrise stroll before the midday rush. Please remember that dogs are never permitted on the White Rock Pier.

Where to Go After 9:00 AM? Just because the Promenade restrictions are in place doesn't mean your pup has to stay home! White Rock and South Surrey are home to some incredible 'all-day' pet sanctuaries:

  • Memorial Park: Located right on Marine Drive next to the Museum, this park remains a leashed-dog sanctuary all day, year-round. It’s the perfect spot to sit on a bench and enjoy the salt air together.

  • Blackie Spit (Crescent Beach): A South Surrey treasure. While beach access has seasonal limits (May 15 – Sept 15), the fully-fenced off-leash dog park and the 5km nature trail are year-round favorites.

  • Dogwood Park: For the high-energy pups, this massive off-leash area in South Surrey offers both forest trails and open fields to burn off that morning energy.

Our Top 3 'Dog-Approved' Patios: If you're looking for a post-walk refuel, these local favorites offer pet-friendly seating:

  1. Grounds & Greens Café: A go-to for plant-based delights with a welcoming atmosphere for your four-legged companion.

  2. 3 Dogs Brewing: Appropriately named, this local craft brewery welcomes pups on their patio while you enjoy a pint and a bite.

  3. The Morrison (Five Corners): A classic White Rock hangout with a fantastic patio that welcomes the whole family—furry members included.

We know that for many of our clients, 'home' isn't complete without their pets. Whether you’re looking for a dog-friendly penthouse or a backyard large enough for a game of fetch, we’re here to help you find your perfect fit.
